The fictional South Indian town created by R.K. Narayan, which serves as the setting for most of his novels and short stories. Narayan described it as a place existing “between Mysore and Madras.” Though entirely invented, Malgudi feels real because Narayan populated it with consistent geography, recurring characters, and a believable social world.
