Words such as can, could, may, might, must, shall, should, will, would, ought to that express possibility, necessity, permission, or obligation. In passive voice, modal auxiliaries retain their form and are followed by be + V3. Example: “She can solve it” → “It can be solved by her.” Modal passive constructions appear frequently in SSC and IBPS English sections.
