A grammatical construction in which the subject of the sentence receives the action rather than performing it. The agent (doer) is either placed in a by-phrase or omitted entirely. Example: The resolution was approved by the committee. Passive voice is common in scientific writing, formal reports, and official announcements where the action matters more than the doer.
