An artistic and literary movement that sought to express the subconscious mind, dreams, and irrational imagery. Some scholars place Banalata Sen within a surrealist framework because of its dreamlike imagery, fluid time, and blending of the historical and the personal. Das himself did not identify exclusively with surrealism, though he acknowledged the label as partially accurate.
