A literary device in which one sense is described in terms of another. In Banalata Sen, Das writes of “the sound of dew” (sound + touch) and “the scent of sunlight” (smell + light). These crossings of sense create a dreamlike, immersive quality that is one of the poem’s most distinctive features.
