In Greek mythology, Nemesis was the goddess of divine retribution — the force that punished hubris and restored moral balance. In literary terms, a character’s nemesis is the force, person, or circumstance that brings about their downfall, often as a consequence of their own flaws or crimes. The nemesis acts as an agent of justice within the narrative world.
