A literary and cultural movement in Bengali writing, roughly spanning the early to mid-twentieth century, that broke with the dominant influence of Rabindranath Tagore to introduce themes of urban alienation, existential doubt, surrealism, and introspection. Jibanananda Das is considered a central figure of this movement.
